LAVERTON, Australia – Suzuki Australia Pty. Ltd. is recalling more than 21,000 vehicles due to a fault within the braking system.

According to the Australian Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts, the Japanese importer is recalling 18,144 Suzuki A2L310 (Swift), A2L414 (Swift Sports), A1K310 (Baleno), APK414 (Vitara) and AKK414 (S-Cross) models due to a manufacturing defect in which ”the valve between the engine and the vacuum assist brake booster may swell under certain conditions. As a result, an increased brake pedal effort may be required to achieve the expected stopping distance.”

The safety agency went further, reporting “If the braking system does not operate as intended, it could increase the risk of a crash resulting in serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.”

In addition to this recall (REC-005514), the agency issued a second one (REC-005515) for 3,466 vehicles (model year range 2016-2022 Swift, Swift Sports, Baleno, Vitara and S-Cross) for the same braking-system fault.

Owners are requested to contact their franchised dealers to determine when the repair parts are available and then bring them to the dealers for repairs.
