Escambia County Fire Rescue responded to a RV fire in Beulah Thursday afternoon where a firefighter believed he was being shot at.

Firefighters were called to the end of Waldroup Lane, a dirt road off Woodside Road just south of Beulah Elementary School.

A firefighter arriving on scene thought he was being shot at, according to Amber Southard, Escambia County Sheriff’s Office public information officer. Deputies responded and took one person into custody while they investigated. She said it was determined that there was “no evidence of a shooting”, and the person was released with no charges.

The RV was a complete loss.

Firefighters staged at nearby Beulah Elementary School until the ECSO determined the scene was safe, according to Davis Wood with Escambia County Fire Rescue.

There were no injuries reported.

A very dangerous situation for sure, happy to hear our brave firefighters of beulah and this chief are safe and nothing escalated in this situation, todays world isn’t the same anymore.

I believe this particular section of road/homes had similar problems not too long ago. This guy has a long wrap sheet and I can’t believe he isn’t in prison…. But again we live in a different world now.

Thank for Firefighters and other emergency responders for all that you do!!!

Ammo doesn’t “go flying” when burned, despite what you see in movies. For every action, there is an opposite and equal reaction. If a cartridge is heated to the point of ignition, the bullet and cartridge will travel in opposite directions, but for an extremely short distance, depending upon the type of ammunition. Kind of like how movies shoe the bullet traveling through water at a high velocity, for a long distance. That also doesn’t happen in real life.

REGARDING: “boxes of ammo would get hot and start firing. It’s a dangerous situation”

It’s interesting that in such cases, the lead tends to stay in place but the brass goes flying. It is not like a bullet fired down a barrel.

Chances are there could have been ammunition in the RV. I’ve been on several house fires where boxes of ammo would get hot and start firing. It’s a dangerous situation and all you can do is take cover because you don’t know when or where they are coming from. Most people don’t properly store their ammo.

Sounded like gunshots. Maybe they lit 100 tires ablaze and had a late 4th of July celebration. Regardless, thank god for our brave first responders and the fireman who didn’t leave the scene until all of the people that gathered to watch were evacuated under gunfire or not. Kudos to ECFR AND ECSO!
