It’s a day of choose-your-own adventures when the Spring Classic takes to the roads Saturday, June 18. The 35th edition of the bike ride lets participants choose from four route distances – 25, 50, 62 or 100 miles – that weave through some of Northern Door’s most picturesque bike routes. Travel back roads; explore the shoreline; ride past iconic landmarks; then gather with your friends at the finish in Baileys Harbor for a post-ride meal, beer and other beverages.
Online registration is closed, but you can still sign up on-site Friday evening from 4-7 pm at packet pickup at the Baileys Harbor Town Hall, or ride morning from 6:30 – 9 am.
But before you hop in the saddle, be sure you’re set to ride. Although the routes will have rest stops stocked with snacks, food, and fuel for your ride, being prepared will help to ensure that you’ll get the most out of your ride. Here’s a checklist of what to prepare and pack before you get rolling.
• Hydration supplies: an old-school water bottle or a hydration pack
• Smartphone or GPS loaded with your route map
• Panniers: 20- or 40-liter
• Frame bag, handlebar bag and/or trunk bag
• Rain covers (Plastic trash bags will do in a pinch.)
• Mirrors (handlebar or helmet) and reflectors
• Spare tube(s), tires and chain
• Spare disc brakes and brake pads
• Multi-tool and chain tool
