AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – FCA US, LLC is recalling certain model-year 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokees because their hazard lights might flash when the driver steps on the brake pedal.
The 20 tow-row and 15 three-row (Grand Cherokee L) sport utility vehicles covered by the recall were produced on Jan. 26, 2022, in Detroit.
The safety issue, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Part 573 Safety Recall Report 22V-327, “If the hazard lights flash during a braking event, following drivers may become confused by the additional lighting, which can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning.”
The reason for the Jeep Grand Cherokee recall is non-compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 which “requires that stop lamps shall be ‘steady burning.’ Vehicles that activate the hazard lights when the brake pedal is applied are not steady burning.”
The remedy, also according to the NHTSA report, is replacement of the body-control module.
Dealers and owners are scheduled to begin receiving notification July 1st.
