Aguila Ammunition has started shipping a new 124-grain 9mm Jacketed Hollow Point (JHP) pistol cartridge for the American market. This new self-defense oriented 9mm cartridge will be available for sale in both the standard count boxes of 50 rounds and also in cases of 500 rounds. The muzzle velocity is listed 1,130 fps and it offers 396 ft.-lbs. of energy at the muzzle. This hollow point bullet is also loaded in a reloadable boxer primed brass casing, which may be of interest to those who like to pick up and save their brass for handloading

The 9mm cartridge has been in production for over a century and has undergone many changes since its inception. It was originally designed by Georg Luger for use in his classic and well known toggle-action Luger pistol. Shortly thereafter the imperial German military adopted it, and it served the Germans through the First and Second world wars. Post-war, it became the official NATO pistol cartridge, which cemented its popularity in all sectors of the shooting industry. Besides the original 9mm Luger pistol, many of the most classic and well-known handguns of the 20th century were also originally chambered in 9mm. The Browning Hi-Power comes to mind, along with the original SIG P220, the original Glock P80, and the Beretta 92. The cartridge has been enjoying a new found resurgence in the early 21st century due to improvements in effective projectile technology and the fact that gunmaker are offering 9mm chambered firearms like never before.

The 9 mm vs. .45 ACP argument has been going on for more than a century. Many believed the two World Wars answered this question after Americans used their .45s to beat the Germans and their 9 mms— twice. But in 1967, the Illinois State Police adopted the Smith & Wesson Model 39 pistol in 9 mm, and in 1985 the U.S. Military transitioned from their war-winner to the Beretta M9.
