On a per-share basis, the Cincinnati-based company said it had profit of $4.40. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to $4.84 per share.
The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $4.78 per share.
The operator of the Roto-Rooter plumbing service and Vitas Healthcare hospices posted revenue of $531.3 million in the period.
Chemed expects full-year earnings in the range of $19.30 to $19.50 per share.
Chemed shares have decreased nearly 1% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $524.08, an increase of 9% in the last 12 months.
